Traverse City Film Festival
The Traverse City Film Festival is a community event like no other. Over 1000 volunteers come together annually during the first week of August to manage the Traverse City Film Festival. Why do they do it? They volunteer because the Traverse City Film Festival is simply inspirational. The effort, love and dedication of the volunteers is contagious, and the spirit of movie goers turns downtown Traverse City into one of the most hip places to be in the country.
A Dream: Traverse City Film Festival
The Traverse City Film Festival is the brain child of festival directors Michael Moore, Doug Stanton and John Robert Williams. In 2005 they announced that they would hold the first Traverse City Film Festival centered around the closed down State Theatre that had been empty since 1991. The response to the Traverse City Film Festival was amazing. Over 50,000 people attended ticketed and free movies at the first festival. The Traverse City Film Festival has only grown since.

Photographer Gary L Howe has volunteered his craft at the Traverse City Film Festival for each of the first 4 years. His aim is to capture the emotional story of the Traverse City Film Festival in a way that graphically documents the festival for both historical record and marketing purposes for promoting the Traverse City Film Festival.
